ABOUT

Independent perspective. Executive clarity.

Energy Business Strategy helps leaders make better decisions in markets shaped by rapid technological, economic and regulatory change.

EBS works at the intersection of market intelligence, strategy and transformation—helping organizations understand what is changing, determine what matters, and translate that understanding into practical strategic choices.

The work is grounded in a simple idea: strong strategy begins before the answer. It starts by asking whether the problem has been framed correctly.

Michael is an energy and business strategist with more than 25 years of experience across electric power, energy markets, technology, business development and strategic transformation.

His work spans utility strategy, emerging technologies, distributed energy resources, customer and market transformation, large electricity loads and new energy business models. Increasingly, his work examines how artificial intelligence and intelligent systems are changing energy markets, business models and strategic decision-making.

He founded Energy Business Strategy as an advisory and consultancy in 2006, seeing a gap in how companies and executive teams develop and execute strategy. EBS was created to help leaders understand what is changing, determine what those changes mean, and make better strategic choices before committing to the technologies, capital investments and operating models that follow from them.

The EBS Difference

Perspective grounded in experience.

Strategic challenges rarely exist in isolation. Markets, technology, regulation, capital, customer expectations and organizational capabilities increasingly interact.

EEBS brings an independent perspective to those intersections. Engagements are senior-led and built around the decision being made—not a predetermined methodology, technology solution or large consulting team.

The objective is straightforward: understand what changed, determine what it means, and translate that understanding into strategic choices that can create durable value.

THE BOTTOM LINE

Better questions create better strategic choices.

When markets are changing, the quality of the question often determines the quality of the decision.
